Details of the Breach and Major Losses According to a report from blockchain analytics firm PeckShield on January 24, the breach occurred on January 23, 2025, targeting assets across multiple major blockchain networks. The losses included $20 million on the Ethereum network and $17 million on Solana, along with $13 million in XRP and $5.3 million in Bitcoin.

Analysts at Hacken stated that the hackers, believed to be linked to North Korea, quickly converted the stolen stablecoins like Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) into (ETH) to avoid restrictions and blacklists.

The Biggest Breach of 2025 So Far This breach is the largest of 2025 to date, surpassing the FortuneWheel hack on the BNB Chain, which incurred losses of $21 million, according to data from De.Fi.

Security Measures and Compensation Plan Federico Fariola, the CEO of Phemex, confirmed that the exchange's cold wallets remain secure, noting that withdrawals for the stablecoins USDT and USDC are "being gradually recovered." He added that Bitcoin wallets were unaffected, and withdrawal operations will be reactivated soon.

Phemex stated in an official announcement that it is currently conducting a comprehensive review of its security system to determine how the breach occurred. They also confirmed that they are working on a "compensation plan that will be announced soon" to compensate those affected and restore investor confidence.
