Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), one of Japan's largest financial institutions, has strengthened its regional leadership structure with the appointment of Sandeep Kohli as Regional Head of Markets Sales and Trading at MUFG Securities EMEA plc, reflecting the group's continued focus on business integration, operational efficiency, and strategic growth across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
The appointment, which is subject to regulatory approval, places Kohli in a senior leadership position responsible for managing the regional Markets Sales and Trading business, overseeing strategic priorities, risk management, and coordination among MUFG's international markets teams.
Based in London, Kohli will report to Nobu Nanjo, Chief Executive Officer of MUFG Securities EMEA, and Mike Yarian, Head of Global Markets Sales and Trading (ex-Japan). His new responsibilities will involve strengthening cooperation across regional operations and supporting the group's efforts to deliver comprehensive financial markets solutions to institutional clients.
Kohli brings more than 25 years of international financial services experience, having built his career across several leading global financial institutions, including BNY, BNP Paribas, Nomura, and Deutsche Bank. His professional background encompasses senior management responsibilities in sales and trading, technology, operations, and organizational transformation.
He joined MUFG EMEA in 2025 as Co-Head of the International Securities Strategic Office, gaining direct experience in the group's international business strategy and institutional operations. His promotion represents an important addition to MUFG's regional executive leadership as the organization continues developing its global markets capabilities.
Throughout his career, Kohli has been involved in managing complex businesses, leading international teams, and supporting transformation initiatives within major financial institutions. This combination of strategic and operational experience is expected to contribute to MUFG's efforts to strengthen organizational efficiency and improve coordination across its international business.
The leadership announcement follows a separate development in MUFG's European operations. On November 2, the group announced the completion of the merger between MUFG Securities (Europe) N.V. and MUFG Bank (Europe) N.V., establishing an integrated banking and securities platform in the European Union.
The combined business, operating as MUFG Bank Europe, is headquartered in Amsterdam and includes a newly established universal banking branch in Paris. The integration brings together corporate banking, investment banking, and global markets capabilities as part of MUFG's long-term regional growth strategy.
Although the integration involves a separate European entity from MUFG Securities EMEA plc, both developments demonstrate the group's broader emphasis on strengthening regional business structures and improving collaboration across international operations.
Nobu Nanjo has emphasized the importance of further developing MUFG's Global Markets franchise and identifying opportunities to enhance growth and efficiency. He also highlighted the value of Kohli's industry experience in supporting the group's international ambitions.
Mike Yarian similarly underscored Kohli's understanding of MUFG's business and his established internal relationships, which are expected to help bring together the capabilities of the group's global markets operations.
The appointment comes as international financial institutions continue adapting their operating models to serve clients across increasingly interconnected markets. Leadership structures that combine commercial expertise, operational oversight, and strategic coordination play an important role in supporting institutional service delivery and business performance.
With Kohli taking on expanded regional responsibilities, MUFG aims to strengthen the management of its EMEA markets franchise while supporting greater integration, improved operational efficiency, and sustainable growth across its international financial services business.
