Chinese state-linked media has raised concerns over Nvidia’s H20 artificial intelligence chips, citing security risks and environmental issues.
A WeChat post by Yuyuan Tantian, an account associated with state broadcaster CCTV, labeled the H20 chips as “neither environmentally friendly, nor advanced, nor safe,” and suggested consumers “certainly have the option not to buy it”.
This follows a July 31 meeting in which China’s Cyberspace Administration summoned Nvidia to explain whether the chips contained hardware “backdoors” enabling remote shutdowns or access. Nvidia has denied these claims.
These developments come as Nvidia resumes H20 chip sales to China after a prior U.S. ban was lifted in July.
