Bitcoin Holds Near $83,000 as Crypto Liquidations Approach $800 Million Amid Asian Market Sell-Off

Bitcoin traded near $83,000 on Wednesday, October 14, as volatility across Asian stock markets and uncertainty over the global economic outlook weighed on cryptocurrency investor sentiment, contributing to a wave of liquidations in leveraged trading positions.

The world's largest cryptocurrency was trading around $83,388 after briefly moving above $84,000 earlier in the session. Bitcoin recorded a marginal decline of 0.08% over the previous 24 hours, while Ethereum slipped 0.21% to approximately $2,504.

The broader cryptocurrency market remained under pressure, with total market capitalization declining slightly to approximately $2.8 trillion. Major digital assets, including BNB, Solana, Cardano and Hyperliquid, also registered losses.

Market analysts estimated that approximately $800 million in leveraged cryptocurrency positions had been liquidated over the preceding 24 hours, reflecting the impact of sharp price fluctuations and increased caution among traders.

Weakness across Asian equity markets, particularly technology and semiconductor shares, contributed to a broader decline in risk appetite. Concerns surrounding artificial intelligence valuations and global economic conditions have increased uncertainty across both traditional and digital asset markets.

Institutional cryptocurrency demand also showed signs of weakness, with US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recording approximately $65 million in net outflows during the period.

Despite the selling pressure, Bitcoin recovered from an intraday low below $81,000, suggesting that buyers remained active at lower price levels. Analysts identified the $81,500 region as an important support area, while resistance around $84,000 continued to limit upward momentum.

Market participants are now focusing on upcoming US inflation figures, Treasury yield movements and technology-sector earnings, which could influence expectations for Federal Reserve monetary policy and overall demand for risk-sensitive assets.

Although Bitcoin has demonstrated resilience following the recent sell-off, continued volatility across global financial markets and uncertainty surrounding institutional investment flows could shape its near-term performance.
