CFI Financial Group has appointed Francois du Plessis as Chief Executive Officer for South Africa, strengthening its leadership team as the global online trading provider continues to develop its presence in the South African market.
Du Plessis takes over the leadership of CFI’s South African operations, bringing extensive experience across online trading, market analysis, business development, regulatory environments, and financial services in the region.
His appointment follows several years of senior roles within the African trading industry, giving him a strong understanding of the local market and the needs of traders, investors, and financial services companies.
Extensive Experience in South Africa’s Trading Industry
Before joining CFI Financial Group, du Plessis worked with ATFX Africa, where he served as a Market Analyst. He joined ATFX in 2025 and remained with the company until shortly before taking on his new position at CFI.
During his time at ATFX, he was also registered as a CAT I and CAT II FAIS representative under the company’s South African regulatory framework, adding regulated financial services experience to his broader market background.
Earlier in his career, du Plessis held positions with HFM, where he worked as a Market Analyst before being appointed Country Head for South Africa. His experience at HFM combined market analysis with leadership responsibilities and exposure to the development of brokerage operations within the South African market.
He has also worked with CAEP Group, a South Africa-based company active in areas including regulatory hosting, licensing, and compliance services.
This combination of brokerage, market analysis, regulatory knowledge, and executive experience positions du Plessis to lead CFI’s continued development in South Africa.
Leading CFI’s South African Operations
As CEO of CFI South Africa, du Plessis will take responsibility for the company’s local operations and its strategic development within one of Africa’s most established financial markets.
He succeeds Zihaad Israfil, who had led CFI’s South African business since the launch of its operations in the country.
CFI expanded into South Africa after obtaining authorization from the country’s Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in 2024, before launching local operations later that year.
CFI Financial’s official materials currently list South Africa among the markets where the Group maintains operations, alongside its wider international presence. The company describes itself as an online trading provider with more than 25 years of industry experience and offices across several global markets.
The appointment comes as CFI continues building its position within the African trading industry and developing its local infrastructure in South Africa.
Du Plessis brings not only executive and brokerage experience but also a strong public profile as a financial market commentator. He has regularly participated in industry events and discussions covering trading, market trends, commodities, and broader developments affecting financial markets.
His knowledge of local market conditions is expected to be an important asset as CFI seeks to strengthen relationships with South African traders and expand its regional footprint.
The move to CFI Financial Group represents a significant step in du Plessis’ career, taking him from market analysis and previous country-level leadership roles into the CEO position at an international trading provider.
As Chief Executive Officer – South Africa, Francois du Plessis is now positioned to play a central role in shaping CFI Financial Group’s strategy and growth within the South African market while supporting the company’s broader ambitions across the region.
