African payments technology company Flutterwave has appointed Morounke Olufemi as Global Chief Financial Officer, promoting her from her previous role as CFO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She will take responsibility for the company’s global finance operations as Flutterwave continues developing its international payments business.
Olufemi joined Flutterwave in 2025 and worked alongside outgoing Global CFO Mitesh Popat on the company’s financial strategy. Flutterwave founder and CEO Olugbenga Agboola said the company’s strategic priorities, capital discipline and long-term financial goals will remain unchanged following the leadership transition.
Before joining Flutterwave, Olufemi served as Group Chief Financial Officer at Access Holdings Plc. Access Holdings’ corporate records confirm her position, while her earlier career included senior finance roles at AXA XL, Old Mutual West Africa and Barclays Corporate & Investment Bank.
Her career spans more than two decades across finance, strategy, banking, insurance and financial services. At Access Holdings, she was responsible for senior finance functions within a group whose businesses span banking, payments, lending, pensions and other financial services.
Olufemi succeeds Mitesh Popat, who joined Flutterwave as CFO in September 2024 after previously holding senior finance positions at Citi. Popat is stepping down from the day-to-day CFO role to pursue an entrepreneurial venture as a co-founder of Next Communications, while remaining a strategic adviser to Flutterwave.
The leadership change comes as Flutterwave continues expanding the payment infrastructure it provides to businesses and financial institutions connecting African markets with the wider global economy. The company operates in financial technology and cross-border payments, providing infrastructure for businesses and banks.
