Cryptocurrencies Rise as Bitcoin Trades Above $31,200

Cryptocurrencies rose on Thursday with Bitcoin trading above $31,200 amid expectations of further U.S. interest rate hikes this year and ahead of economic data releases.

Bitcoin climbed 2.53% to $31,204.25 at 11:56 a.m. GMT, according to CoinDesk data.

Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency, gained 2.02% to $1,949.06, while XRP was little changed at $0.4774.

BlackRock Executive Vice President Larry Fink said in a Fox Business interview that Bitcoin is an international asset and instead of investing in gold to hedge inflation, investors could buy Bitcoin.
