Tesla, BYD's China deliveries hit record high in Q2

Tesla and its Chinese rival BYD achieved record sales of their China-made electric vehicles in the second quarter, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association.

Tesla sold 93,680 vehicles in June, up 18.72% from a year earlier, while BYD saw sales surge 88.16% YoY to 251,685 vehicles.

The surge in sales is attributed to the companies' ability to stay ahead of their competition, despite a slowdown in China's overall auto sales due to a softening economy, and additional support from the Chinese government in the form of purchase tax breaks on new-energy vehicles.
