ACWA Power signs $2.4 billion power purchase agreement with Uzbekistan's grid

ACWA Power announced the signing of a Power Purchase Contract with the National Grid of Uzbekistan on December 23, 2022, for the construction of 3 wind power plants in the Kongrad district of the Republic of Karakalpakistan, Uzbekistan, with a total capacity of 1.5 GW.

The company said in a statement on Tadawul today that the value of the contract is $ 2.4 billion, and is represented in an agreement to develop, build and operate the project, noting that the duration of the project is 25 years after the completion of construction.

It expects the financial impact of the project to begin after commercial operation by the third quarter of 2027.

The Kongrad wind plant, formerly known as the Karakalpakstan Independent Wind Power Plant, will be the largest single-site wind farm in Central Asia and one of the world's largest, predicting that 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions will be cut annually and power 1.65 million households.

She explained that the project was divided into 3 project companies on site, each of which is developing a 500 MW wind power plant, and each of the project companies has entered into a separate power purchase agreement.
