Ethereum rises 1% after network upgrade. Bitcoin trades above $20,000.

Ethereum rose during Thursday's trading after the company announced the entry into force of the network upgrade, while the rest of the cryptocurrencies rose slightly in a bid to recover from their recent losses.

After the upgrade, the Ethereum network — called the 'merger' — moved to a system known as proof of share, which replaces miners with auditors, in a move that could lead to a 99 percent reduction in energy consumption during the mining process, according to Bloomberg.

In further support for Doug Coin, Tesla's new product brochure, published Wednesday, showed that the electric car maker will introduce the CyberTurk Cypressel-inspired car and, according to CEO Elon Musk, will be paid to buy the car using Doug Queen coin.

Bitcoin rose 0.7% at $20107.25, at 11:47 a.m. Mecca time, according to CoinPass data.

The second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, Ethereum, also rose 1% to $1606.80, while Ripple fell 0.73% to 33.96 cents.
