Euroclear has announced the appointment of Guillaume Eliet as Chief Executive Officer of Euroclear Bank, alongside the appointment of Marie-Anne Haegeman as Group Chief Risk Officer, marking a significant leadership transition at the international financial markets infrastructure provider.
Eliet will succeed Peter Sneyers, who is scheduled to retire from Euroclear at the end of 2026. The new CEO is expected to assume his responsibilities on January 1, 2027, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
Currently serving as Euroclear's Group Chief Risk Officer, Eliet will join the Euroclear Bank Board of Directors and chair its Management Committee. As part of the transition, he will step down from the boards of Euroclear SA/NV and Euroclear Holding.
Eliet joined Euroclear in 2017 as Head of Regulatory, Compliance and Public Affairs. He subsequently became Chief Executive Officer of Euroclear's ESES Central Securities Depositories in 2021, gaining experience across securities settlement, regulatory oversight and financial market infrastructure.
Before joining Euroclear, he held senior positions at France's Autorité des Marchés Financiers, the country's financial markets regulator.
The company also announced that Marie-Anne Haegeman will succeed Eliet as Group Chief Risk Officer, effective January 1, 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
Haegeman currently serves as Chief Banking and Network Officer at Euroclear Bank and previously held senior risk management positions at Euroclear and Belgian banking group KBC.
The leadership changes come as global financial market infrastructure providers face evolving regulatory requirements, technological developments and increasing demand for secure cross-border securities services.
Euroclear plays an important role in international capital markets, providing settlement, custody and related financial infrastructure services for bonds, equities, investment funds and other financial instruments.
The appointments are intended to provide leadership continuity as the organization continues developing its international operations and financial infrastructure capabilities.
