Mexican fintech Orbi has announced a strategic partnership with SoFi Tech Solutions and Mastercard to support a crypto-linked payment card program in Mexico, connecting digital assets with traditional payment infrastructure.
Announced on October 8, 2026, the collaboration enables Orbi customers to use digital-dollar balances for everyday purchases through physical and virtual Mastercard cards. Cryptocurrency balances are converted into traditional currency during transactions, allowing merchants to receive payments without directly handling digital assets.
SoFi Tech Solutions, formerly known as Galileo, provides the underlying financial technology infrastructure, including Mastercard BIN sponsorship, transaction processing, authorization and compliance capabilities. Orbi manages the customer-facing experience, while Mastercard provides access to its global payment acceptance network.
The partnership positions Orbi as the first digital asset-focused company to participate in SoFi Tech Solutions' Mastercard BIN sponsorship program in Mexico, strengthening the connection between cryptocurrency services and established financial institutions.
Leonardo Pérez, co-founder of Orbi, highlighted the companies' shared objective of making digital dollars more practical for everyday financial transactions. Meanwhile, Kathleen Pierce-Gilmore, President of SoFi Tech Solutions, emphasized Mexico's importance as a major remittance market and the growing potential of stablecoins in international money transfers.
The collaboration also establishes a foundation for future stablecoin-powered payment and remittance services involving SoFiUSD, although these capabilities remain under development.
The announcement reflects growing cooperation between fintech providers and established payment networks as businesses seek to make digital assets more accessible within mainstream financial services.
