Nvidia, a leader in artificial intelligence, has unveiled ambitious plans to create advanced AI servers in the United States, costing up to $500 billion over the next four years. This initiative will be implemented in collaboration with major strategic partners such as TSMC, reinforcing its position at the heart of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to boost domestic manufacturing in the U.S.

The project includes the production of advanced Blackwell AI chips at TSMC’s factory in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as the manufacturing of supercomputers at Foxconn and Wistron plants in Texas. These factories are expected to see an increase in production over the next 12 to 15 months, enhancing Nvidia's ability to meet the growing global demand for AI technologies.

In a comment, Gill Loria, an analyst at D.A. Davidson, stated that "Nvidia would not have moved in this direction without the increasing pressures from the Trump administration." He noted that the estimates of half a trillion dollars in investments might be exaggerated, reminding that similar promises were made by companies like Apple, which pledged significant investments in the U.S., even though iPhone assembly primarily takes place in China.

This announcement comes at a sensitive time as the United States has announced exemptions for certain electronics like smartphones and chips from reciprocal tariffs with China, a move indicative of the Trump administration's escalation in addressing the implications of tariffs on consumers and tech industries, especially amid the heavy reliance on components from China and Taiwan.

On his part, Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, confirmed that directing more production to the United States will enhance the company’s capacity to meet the massive and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, as well as strengthen the local supply chain and increase the company's resilience to future challenges. He added that this direction will create hundreds of thousands of job opportunities in the near future.

It is worth noting that Nvidia stated last March that it does not expect a significant impact from tariffs in the short term, but it will continue to enhance its manufacturing in the U.S. in the long term, which is a new step in its strategic path that has already begun at TSMC's factory in Arizona, where actual production of the new generation of chips has started.
