Deutsche Börse Group, a leading global market infrastructure provider, has announced through its post-trade service provider Clearstream the enhancement of its custody services to include crypto assets, leveraging its subsidiary Crypto Finance’s expertise.
This new offering, expected to launch in April, will provide institutional investors with settlement and custody services in the realm of digital assets.
The move marks an extension of Deutsche Börse’s digital asset capabilities following Crypto Finance’s acquisition of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCAR) license in January, which allows the company to cater to clients throughout Europe while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Jens Hachmeister, Head of Issuer Services & New Digital Markets at Clearstream, emphasized the importance of this advancement in Clearstream’s digital market strategy. He stated, "Offering crypto custody is the next step on Clearstream’s journey to digitise financial markets."
He also noted that the solution is institutional-grade, regulatory compliant, and integrates the strengths of Deutsche Börse Group’s established post-trading systems.
This collaboration between Clearstream and Crypto Finance aims to set a new standard in the management of crypto assets, contributing to the harmonization of digital financial markets. It is part of Deutsche Börse Group’s broader goal of fostering innovation while maintaining a secure trading environment for its clients.
Stijn Vander Straeten, CEO of Crypto Finance Group, highlighted the strategic advantage of the offering, saying, "This offering puts Deutsche Börse Group in a position second to none in the digital assets industry."
He pointed out the convenience for financial institutions looking to enter the crypto industry, as the services will be integrated with traditional financial market systems.
The custody services for crypto assets will be provided by Crypto Finance (Deutschland) GmbH, a member of Deutsche Börse Group.
